Bamboo Dock wins 2010 Adobe MAX Award

Wacom, the leading manufacturer of pen tablets, interactive pen displays and intuitive interface devices, today announces that Bamboo Dock has been awarded the internationally renowned Adobe MAX Award in the category of Social Computing.

The MAX Award is a global competition focusing on innovative uses of technology and software to create high-impact enterprise, entertainment, social computing, and digital-publishing applications that bring together worldwide users across computing platforms. This year, hundreds of entries were received from creative and application development professionals. A panel of Adobe judges and industry experts identified the top 18 entries across six categories as finalists. Afterwards in an online voting event, the public voted for their favorite finalists.

About Bamboo Dock

Bamboo Dock, which is situated on the desktop as an icon, gives access to a constantly growing number of Bamboo applications. These provide a range of pen- and multi-touch-based functions, such as drawing and sketching, marking maps and playing games. And that’s not all: Bamboo Dock brings user communities together. With pen and multi-touch interactions, they experience the creative process in an interactive environment and can connect with co-workers, friends and family via social media platforms such as Facebook or Twitter. All Bamboo apps are currently available for use with Microsoft Windows and Mac OS.

Wacom’s aim is to make working with computers easier for every user, regardless of their skills and background. Therefore, Wacom has been working for several years with developers from Gugga, one of the leading companies specializing in Adobe Flash Platforms in Bulgaria, to extend the use of its Bamboo tablet with Bamboo Dock.

The Bamboo apps experience

To experience Bamboo apps, users need to download/install Bamboo Dock. It keeps them up-to-date and informs them when a new app is available. Bamboo Dock can be installed from the Bamboo CD (included in the packaging box of each Bamboo tablet) or online from http://bamboodock.wacom.com/

Story of success

Bamboo Dock has been successful in many European countries, with more than 500,000 downloads. Since October 2010, it is now available worldwide, including US, Japan and China. Bamboo apps are developed by third party developers. Wacom provides free tools such as software developers kit (SDK) to support developers to create new Bamboo apps. These kits are free and can be downloaded on http://mini-developer.wacom.eu/
